Three Days Grace Lore

Hello everybody and welcome to Three Days Grace Lore!

My goal with this blog is to share and promote a deeper understanding of the songs from Three Days Grace.

The Band

Three Days Grace is a canadian rock band, created in 1992, and originally called Groundswell. It's music is a combination of post-grunge with alternative metal, despite having already merged with smoother sounding styles.

The members of the band were Adam Gontier (vocal), Brad Walst (Bass), Neil Sanderson (Drums) and Barry Stock (Guitar, joined in 2003). However, in 2013, Gontier left the band due to health problems, and Matt Walst (Brad's brother) took his place.

Albums

The band's first album, Three Days Grace, was released in 2003, and was a sucess in no time: Singles like I Hate Everything About You and Just Like You were on the top trending lists of radio, striking the listener's ears and hearts with simplicity, quality and lyric profundity.

Three years later came to the world the favourite album of most 3DG fans: One-X. This album's dark-themed, anguish-charged songs reflected the feelings of the main vocalist, Adam Gontier, who had developed addiction for the drug OxyContin and started treatment.

Another 3 years and the band's third album was released: after sucessfully leaving the drug behind, Gontier's lyrics started showing a more optimistic tone, what can be seen (or heard) in the songs from Life Starts Now.

Transit of Venus was released on the same day as Venu's visible transit across the Sun (June 5, 2012). As the astronomical event, the songs in this album transmitted the feeling that there are some things in our lives that will never happen again.

After Gontier's departure from the band in 2013, Matt Walst took the lead vocal and started the changing process that resulted in the band's fifith album, Human (2015). As the title says, the songs expose the hights and lows of belonging to the human race, as well as criticizing the hypocrisy and passiveness of humanity before those problems.

The Identity of Three Days Grace

The most appealing characteristic in 3DG songs is the feelings they awake in the listener.

Althought most of the songs transmit sad or anguish-based themes, they have some sort of uplifting aura that conforms us. It's like an acceptance of the insoluble problems of life.

And yet some of their songs are fully dedicated to cheering you up, even if it's by the band's way to do it: screaming Enough! at your problems and facing the world with a fearless expression.

So that's it for today! I hope you guys enjoyed it, and feel free to comment my posts. All the best!
